Preview the poster

NOTE: In the following commands, <posterfile> represents the name of your poster file. Do not actually use <posterfile> in the command.

Back in the Secure Shell Client, type

ls

You should see your poster in the file list.

Always preview your print job before printing it. The preview will contain pricing information and will show you if there are any problems with the print job. Note that the colors are an approximation of what will actually be printed. The layout is fairly accurate, so if something looks shifted to one side, it will print that way.

These are the commands you can use to preview your poster, indicated by <posterfile>:

Preview (no cost):

lpr -Pcplot1_np36 <posterfile> for 36-inch paper
lpr -Pcplot1_np42 <posterfile> for 42-inch paper

Type

pine

to view the e-mail message. You may need to wait a minute or so until you receive the e-mail.

Type 'i' to enter the message index, then press Enter to view the message. Press space to scroll down one page. Then click on the URL to view your preview. After looking at the preview, go back to the e-mail message, press '<' to get back to the message list, then press 'd' to delete the message. Then press 'q' to quit pine.

Print the poster

lpr -Pcplot1_hg42 <posterfile> for 42-inch paper

To check on the status of your print job, go to http://cplot.ucsd.edu/. You can also call the printer operator at x44097 with the following information:

1. Your account name
2. [optional] The print queue (cplot1_co36, for example)

If you accidentally printed a poster before previewing it, call the ACS staff with the above information and tell them to cancel the job.

THe printing account is charged on a daily basis for disk usage for any files left behind.

Please type

rm <posterfile>

to delete your file from the printing account. Also, after successfully printing your poster, delete any other copies that you saved on the desktop computer.
