PsyScope Set
Certain extensions that can interfere with the timing of PsyScope should be turned off before running any PsyScope experiments. This includes most extensions and control panels that access the network or that interfere with the display.
If you are using a CRL Macintosh, you already have a PsyScope extensions set defined that you can use. Otherwise, you can create your own using the sample image as a guide.
To create your own PsyScope set, open Extensions Manager.
Select New Set... from the File menu. Name it PsyScope. The PsyScope set will be active.
Select All On from the Edit menu to turn everything on.
Now uncheck the items shown in the sample Extensions Manager window. Note that other programs you have installed on your iBook may have installed additional extensions and control panels that are not shown here.
NOTE: If you have these two extensions:
- Setup Assistant Launcher
- Setup Info Dispatcher
please locate them in your Extensions folder and throw them into the Trash. They will interfere with your startup.
Standard Set (My Settings)
When sharing your computer with PsyScope experiments and other applications (data analysis, word processing, Internet access), you should have a "Standard" extensions set with all extensions on that you can switch to.
If you are using a CRL Macintosh, you already have a Standard extensions set defined that you can use. Otherwise, follow these steps to create your own.
To create your own Standard set, select My Settings if is available, and choose Rename Set from the File menu. Name it Standard.
Select All On from the Edit menu to turn them all on.
If you do not have a My Settings extensions set, simply choose New Set... from the File menu and name it Standard.
When installing a software package, you should always switch to the Standard set, restart, and then install the software. In many cases, software packages install additional extensions and control panels which will be added to the PsyScope Set. In most cases, they will not interfere, but if you think they may involve access to a network, be sure to turn them off in the PsyScope set. An example of one such control panel is Retrospect Client which backs up the computer over a network. If this control panel is on, the Macintosh will look for a network at regular intervals which would wreak havoc on a PsyScope experiment. |
