SoundEdit Automator - Converting WAVE to SoundEdit 16

Before running SoundEdit Automator, create a folder on your desktop in which to save your SoundEdit 16 files.

Locate SoundEdit Automator in your SoundEdit 16 2.0.7 folder within Applications (Mac OS 9). Double-click SoundEdit Automator to run the program.

Make sure the checkboxes are set as shown in this screen shot. The only checkbox that should be on is the one that converts the File Format. Make sure you click this and select SoundEdit 16.

In some cases where the original WAVE files are not 16-bit or 44.100 KHz or if they are compressed (IMA/ADPCM), you can check those boxes and set those the items to those shown.

Click the Add... button.

Navigate to the folder in which your WAVE files are stored. In the example on the right, all WAVE files are by themselves in a folder named WAVE.

Click Add All.

If there is a subset of files you want to convert, you will either need to select a group using the shift key while making multiple selections or select each item individually, then click Open.

The files you added will appear in the bottom list.

Click Done.

Click the Folder button for setting the destination folder.

Navigate to the folder you created before starting SoundEdit Automator.

Click the Select button to set the destination folder.

Note that clicking the New Folder button will not work in the latest Mac OS 9. You will need to exit this program and create a folder in the Macintosh Finder.

Since the option to replace the extension is turned off, the resulting file names will still have a .wav extension. That will not affect the type of file, however.

Note that you can check the box to rename .wav to .SE16, but the PsyScope scripts will have to know about this file extension when reading from the sound file column in your lists.

Locate the application called Drop-Rename in your Applications (Mac OS 9) folder. Arrange your windows as shown below so you can easily drag your sound files on top of this icon to remove the .wav extensions from the end of your sound file names.

Your folder of converted SoundEdit 16 files will have a Conversion Log that you can read to make sure there were no errors during the conversion process. After reading it, drag it to the Trash.

Then, select all the sound files and drag them on top of Drop-Rename.

To remove the ".wav" extension from the end of your sound files, Choose Rename in the functions list on the left. Then type in ".wav" under the Remove String pop-up menu item. If this pop-up doesn't say Remove String, click it to select Remove String.

You are only processing files, so you can turn off the two other checkboxes at the bottom of this window.

You now have a folder of SoundEdit 16 sound files ready for a PsyScope script.
