Communication Disorders in Children and Adults

This course emphasized the neural bases of language and communication development in normal children and adults. Evidence on the language and communication deficits in adults (especially aphasia and dementia) and children (specific language impairment, focal brain injury, stuttering, deafness, and autism) were discussed.

This course introduced students to the central issues in the basic areas in human development. The course explained relationships between biological, cognitive, social and cultural aspects of development.

Brain and Behavioral Development
Instructor: Dr. Leslie Carver

The purpose of this course was to familiarize students with basic mechanisms of brain and behavioral development from embryology through aging. Multiple levels of analysis were discussed, including the effects of hormones on behavior, developmental events at the level of cells, structures, and neural systems, and the neural basis of cognition, social, perceptual, and language development.

The purpose of this course was to familiarize students with behavioral, cognitive, and social research relevant to preschool and elementary eductation. It emphasized critical thinking of teaching practices based on data of children's learning, thinking, and communication.
