EVIDENCE FOR THE ROLE OF INPUT ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF BRAIN PATHWAYS: “Rewired Ferrets”
Early in development there are exuberant connections from primary visual cortex to regions in and near primary auditory cortex.
EXPERIMENTAL INTERVENTION
Cut the connections from the cochlea to auditory cortex.
Cut out primary visual cortex
Now there are visual inputs with no place to go, and auditory cortex with no inputs.
