About the Location

Shannon and I decided to get married at Renwood Farm

because it has special meaning for us as a couple and for me personally.

My great grandfather, John Hula, moved to Virginia from Kansas in the mid 1920's with his three children, Adolph, Ann, and Stanley. Soon after, he bought Riverside Farm in Sandy Point, which is still farmed today by Adolph's family. In the late 1930's, my grandfather, Stanley, bought the next farm up the river, which was called Renwood. My father Marvin grew up there, and after college and a stint in the Forest Service, he returned with my mother, brother, and I to work on the farm in the early 1970's until his death in 1985. Today, Renwood Farms, which primarily grows soybeans, corn, wheat, and barley, is run by my uncle, Stanley Jr., and two of his sons, David and Stanley IV. In July of 2003, my uncle and his family opened a corn maze and farm museum on the property.

Shannon and I got engaged in the front yard of my Aunt Nancy's and Uncle Stanley's farmhouse on July 10, 2003. We are extremely grateful to them for their generosity and hospitality in letting us celebrate our wedding with them at their home.
