• Design approaches and problems

• Overview of Technologies Used

• Potential experimental projects

Topics include:

 

• How "human" should automated speech recognition applications really be?

• To what extent should patterns of spoken discourse influence voice application design?

• How does the user environment affect performance (e.g. in-vehicle systems)?

• What’s different about applications designed for repetitive use vs. occasional use?

• How cognitively distinct are human-to-human spoken interactions vs. human-to-computer speech-based interactions?

• How could we measure this difference?
